Brightsquid Dental Link does not require users to have Java, and disabling or uninstalling Java will not affect or degrade your experience using Brightsquid in any way. I would encourage our users (and everyone else) to disable Java for their own security.The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has warned users to disable or uninstall Java software on their computers, amid continuing fears and an escalation in warnings from security experts that hundreds of millions of business and consumer users are vulnerable to a serious flaw.
Java is a technology popular with many developers, and tends to be more common on older sites. Java is currently provided by Oracle and Oracle has provided instructions on how to disable Java here. Security research firm Sophos has posted a good technical rundown here.

The day after this was posted, Oracle released a fix for the above mentioned vulnerability which can be downloaded here. Everyone who has Java should get this update. People who have no need for Java in their browser may want to consider leaving it disabled, which can be done by following these instructions.
