Dr. Carl Johnson DDS on HIPAA Compliant Communication

We love all the great reviews and videos we have been receiving from our exceptional customers. They are avid users of Brightsquid.

Today we wanted to feature Dr. Carl Johnson D.D.S, P.S. from Pacific Northwest Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Johnson has been using Brightsquid for 2 years and likes the HIPAA compliance and security that Brightsquid provides, saying "I would definitely recommend Brightsquid it's HIPAA capable, that's one feature we have been worrying about particularly with all the new federal regulation about HIPAA compliance and privacy. I know all these areas are being enforced more. It also gives a sense of confidence with our patients when we explain to them how we are transmitting their medical records and medical information to other doctors and other venues."

Watch Dr. Johnson's video on secure HIPAA compliant communication.

Thank you Dr. Johnson for your wonderful recommendation of Brightsquid Dental Link! We couldn't have said it better :)

We have a number of user videos coming in, so please stay tuned for more great videos, interviews and recommendations. If you love Brightsquid Dental Link and would like to be featured in or would like more information on our videos, please email

Ambition, Dedication and Success in the Dental Industry

2013 will be a year of rapid growth and development for Brightsquid Dental Link. We are just finishing our annual business development meetings and I am filled with excitement and promise. There are a number of exciting releases coming your way through the year. I don’t want to give too much away; all I’m going to say is that 2013 is going to be a very big year for both our customers and team here at Brightsquid.

One of Brightsquid’s secrets to success is our amazing international partners. We are fortunate to have the support of many groups, foundations and individuals throughout the dental industry, and I know that 2013 will be a successful and busy year for us all. The Japanese market has been a very compelling opportunity for Brightsquid and there are a number of exciting developments and growth planned for 2013.

Today I would like to introduce you to Dennis Sudo. Dennis is a member of Core3d Japan and the Daishin Trading Company based out of Osaka, Japan. Dennis is more than just a business partner, but a friend to everyone here at Brightsquid Dental Link. I am always impressed by Dennis’s ambition and dedication and when I am lucky enough to meet Dennis in Japan, or he is here in town I am reminded and re-energized on the exciting possibilities of working together. I feel there are many different channels to Brightsquid’s growth in 2013, and our partnership and relationship with Dennis holds more than just talent and promise but attainable and targeted successes.

Dr. Bicuspid ( recently featured a great article on dentistry and cloud computing in Japan. The article, “Japanese dentists eye cloud computing for dental records” by Rosemary Frei, MSc ( features the unique opportunity and need for cloud computing of dental records in Japan.

While Dennis was in Calgary we took the opportunity to get some of his thoughts on dentistry and cloud computing in Japan and filmed a quick video on the subject.

I do “love” my job and it is the people I meet that continue to inspire me, motivate me and give me the extra energy to do more with Brightsquid. As I continue to meet inspired dental people, I’ll continue to introduce them to you in this blog – stay tuned.

Follow us on twitter @brightsquid or use #brightsquidpassion and let me know what you are excited or passion about in 2013.

Java Security Notice - Updated

The U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security is recommending people disable or uninstall Java on their computers.  From the linked story:
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has warned users to disable or uninstall Java software on their computers, amid continuing fears and an escalation in warnings from security experts that hundreds of millions of business and consumer users are vulnerable to a serious flaw.
Brightsquid Dental Link does not require users to have Java, and disabling or uninstalling Java will not affect or degrade your experience using Brightsquid in any way.  I would encourage our users (and everyone else) to disable Java for their own security.

Java is a technology popular with many developers, and tends to be more common on older sites.  Java is currently provided by Oracle and Oracle has provided instructions on how to disable Java here.  Security research firm Sophos has posted a good technical rundown here.

You can comment on this article or contact us directly if you have any questions or concerns.

The day after this was posted, Oracle released a fix for the above mentioned vulnerability which can be downloaded here.  Everyone who has Java should get this update.  People who have no need for Java in their browser may want to consider leaving it disabled, which can be done by following these instructions.
