Bright like a light bulb and squid like a cephalopod?


Did you know that some squids produce light in dark waters?

One of the most common questions we get here at Brightsquid Dental is "Why Brightsquid?" and "How did you come up with your unique name?". Love it or hate it (we love it!), no one seems to forget the dental software company named Brightsquid.

Today we wanted to share the story of how we came up with our unforgettable name, and maybe give our reps a break from answering this common question. 

Traditionally members of the dental care team have communicated in the dark using old fashioned and non-compliant tools to communicate including fax machines, email and paper slips. 

The first part of the name BRIGHT was chosen because Dental Link illuminates and clarifies communication. Information that was once segmented and unavailable, becomes centralized and accessible on Brightsquid.

We decided on the SQUID based on the tentacle like connections that are akin to how Brightsquid joins all the members of the dental care team with private patient data.

Passion for the Dental Industry

After hearing of my educational background, people are often surprised to hear that I am leading a team of innovative individuals creating software for the dental industry. It doesn't surprise me though; I have always sought after innovation and advancement in technology, and believe that it is an amalgamation of my experience and love of technology /science and business that has brought me to Brightsquid. I look for this same passion in my kids, employees, and business partners. The dental industry seems to be packed with enthusiastic individuals who have found a way lead their professional aspirations through their personal interests.

Recently, I met up with a very smart and passionate individual, Mr. Michael Dunn. Mr. Dunn is a self-proclaimed “dental geek passionate about the dental industry, oral health, and marketing”, and it shows. In our brief yet productive meeting, I was inspired by Mr. Dunn’s dental experience and dental marketing prowess. He’s a true enthusiast about advancements in the dental industry, and I left the discussion energized and ready to run forward –faster- with Brightsquid.

I do “love” my job and it is the people I meet that continue to inspire me, motivate me and give me the extra energy to do more with Brightsquid. As I continue to meet inspired dental people, I’ll continue to introduce them to you in this blog – stay tuned.
